Hear the song of the city – feel it flow through you. Sing it – play it – bring it to life.

Song of the City is a participatory music-making experience. Participants, including both the Isonians and the people of the Earth, will work together to develop a series of musical songscapes describing the city. This will be done using voice and simple instruments, creating a wordless conversation about the city, its uses, and its people’s feelings about it.

Songscaping experience
You will join the returning Isonians in making songscapes, so that they can understand this new city and environment in their customary way. You do not need any musical skill to take part, just to make sounds together that will build into the song of the city.

The event will run three times throughout the weekend. The first event will be the first time the Isonians try to sing this city on their first day on Earth. As their understanding of the city and current Earth living grows, we expect the song of the city to change and develop. This means that you can join one or more of the events, and contribute to the evolution of the songscape for Oslo.

Song of the City is a chamber event taking place during the performance and living installation Home Planet, providing a scheduled meeting between the People of Earth and the travellers from the planet of Isona. The travellers from Isona are played by a group of people who are participating in the full performance, living in a building in the centre of Oslo four days in October, exploring the city and culture of Oslo.

Participation does not require any preparation, and you will learn everything you need to know in order to participate after arriving on the location. You don’t have to perform in front of an audience, but you (and other participants) are an integral part of the chamber event and will be asked to embody yourself, a person from the Earth.

The creators behind Song of the City are Mo Holkar, Frida Sofie Jansen, Will Osmond and Ingrid Storrø.

The event is free of charge and open to all.

The event might be photographed/filmed for public use.
