OAT part of Oslo European Green Capital 2019

The European Commission has awarded Oslo the prestigious European Green Capital title for 2019. OAT is proud to be among the 200 partners of Oslo European Green Capital.

Oslo European Green Capital 2019 will spread knowledge, inspire and mobilize the citizens of Oslo - to amp up the volume and achieve more results, faster.

As partner, OAT will through next year’s architecture festival contribute to the achieving the goals of the European Green Capital. OAT addresses global topics that spur international interest and are locally relevant for Oslo. In 2019, OAT is putting on the architectural agenda the theme of degrowth:

OAT 2019 will propose, critique and imagine the buildings, spaces and culture of a new economic paradigm in which human and ecological flourishing matter most. The festival will search for alternatives to the supremacy of economic growth and propose the architecture of this new economy – the architecture of Degrowth.

Degrowth is the aim of a school of thought in socioeconomics and environmental policy which believes that unlimited economic growth is unsustainable, either ecologically or socially. OAT 2019 will investigate how degrowth thinking can be combined with architectural production and urban development.

Through exhibitions, conferences, debates, competitions, publications and events across different formats and media, OAT seeks to challenge the field of architecture and engage the public – in the context of the city of Oslo.

About European Green Capital
The European Commission awarded Oslo the prestigious European Green Capital title for 2019. As European Green Capital 2019, Oslo has taken on an important task: To be a role model to other cities. Oslo is small enough to test new solutions. However, Oslo is also big enough for our solutions to be scaled up to larger cities. The event programme for 2019 is a collaborative effort: grass root organisations, the business community and academic institutions are invited to become partners, by participating with events in the official programme.
